This is not your typical sightseeing tour. It's raw, honest, and real - designed for those who want to dive beneath the polished surface of everyday life in Tbilisi and Georgia. Be prepared to see the unseen, meet the unheard, and go where others won't. What You'll Experience 1. University Dormitories of IDPs. We'll start in the university district of Tbilisi, where you'll visit the university halls of residence where internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Abkhazia have taken up residence in former student hostels. These buildings are more than dormitories - they have become sanctuaries for families who fled the conflict decades ago. Today they struggle with overcrowding and dilapidation but also show incredible resilience. This glimpse into their daily lives provides a powerful narrative of a country scarred by history but full of hope. 2. Ride the Retro Cable Car. Next, you'll take a ride on the Retro Cable Car, a nostalgic piece of Tbilisi's past still used by locals as part of their daily routine. This charming relic of the Soviet era offers a simple yet powerful way to connect with the city's culture beyond the tourist hotspots. There's nothing glamorous about it - just an authentic ride that reflects the enduring spirit and history embedded in everyday life here. 3. Nutsubidze Skybridge and the high-rise blocks. We then head to residential areas that most tourists never see, including the iconic blocks connected by the Nutsubidze Skybridge. These high-rise complexes are connected by a sky bridge 70 meters above the ground, where everyday life goes on amid aging buildings and incredible views. If you're lucky, you might even meet the local worker who runs the lift and keeps everything running smoothly. They often have fascinating stories to tell about life in these towers and what it's like to work in this extraordinary environment. 4. The Abandoned Archaeological Museum. One of the more unique stops on the tour is the abandoned Museum of Archaeology. While it is generally not possible to enter the museum due to security restrictions, true urban explorers may be able to catch a glimpse of its fascinating underground spaces. These dungeons offer a rare perspective on Tbilisi's forgotten areas and provide an insight into the many layers of the city's past. 5. Former Ministry of Roads. Another highlight of our trip is the former Ministry of Roads, a striking example of Soviet-era architecture with its bold and unconventional design. With its interlocking structures and raw concrete form, this building is one of the most iconic examples of Brutalist architecture in Georgia. Although it no longer functions as a ministry, it remains a testament to the ambitious - and sometimes bold - architectural visions of its time. It is a must see for anyone interested in architecture, history or simply experiencing the unique character of Tbilisi. 6. Chronicles of Georgia Monument. We also explore the Chronicles of Georgia, a massive monument overlooking the city and offering stunning views of the Tbilisi Sea and surrounding urban areas. This impressive site often visited for its grandeur, also offers a fascinating perspective on Tbilisi's blend of past and future. From here you can see sprawling Soviet-era architecture set against the backdrop of newer developments, highlighting how Georgia balances its rich heritage with its aspirations for the future.   Why take this Brutal Tbilisi tour? This tour isn't about fancy photo opportunities - it's about the people who call this city home. You'll meet locals who face challenges every day, yet maintain a spirit of determination and hope. You'll see a Tbilisi that is gritty, complicated and beautiful in its rawness. Whether you're a solo traveler, an adventurer, or simply curious to see the less touristy side of Tbilisi, this experience will leave a lasting impression. If you're ready to step out of your comfort zone and discover the raw beauty of Tbilisi, join us on the Brutal Tbilisi: Urban Exploration Join-In Tour. It's an eye-opening journey that will forever change the way you see this city and its people. Join us on an unforgettable full-day journey from Tbilisi into the heart of Northern Armenia, where dramatic mountain views, medieval monasteries, and traces of Soviet industrial history come together in one fascinating adventure. This private tour is ideal for curious travelers looking to experience the beauty of Armenia in just one day.   Your day begins with a morning departure from your hotel in Tbilisi. After a scenic drive through the Georgian countryside, we’ll reach the Georgian-Armenian border. Here, you’ll get a glimpse into the realities of cross-border travel in the Caucasus — a unique experience in itself. We’ll make a short stop after the crossing to exchange currency and pick up some local snacks before continuing our route deeper into Armenia. Our first highlight is Akhtala Monastery, an atmospheric 10th-century fortress-monastery perched above a dramatic gorge. Known for its well-preserved frescoes and peaceful surroundings, Akhtala gives a powerful sense of Armenia’s medieval spiritual life. From there, we continue to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites — Sanahin and Haghpat Monasteries. These two masterpieces of Armenian architecture are nestled among lush hills and are some of the finest examples of religious design in the region. Expect richly carved stonework, ancient inscriptions, and sweeping views of the Debed River Valley. Along the way, we'll stop for lunch at a traditional Armenian family-run restaurant, where you can try local dishes like khorovats (grilled meat), tolma, or lentil-based specialties. Vegetarian and halal options are available. A special stop in the afternoon features a real piece of Soviet aviation history — a genuine MiG-21 fighter jet displayed in a small town square. A reminder of Armenia’s role in Soviet industrial and military development, the aircraft is a striking contrast to the ancient architecture seen earlier in the day. It's a perfect opportunity for photos and to reflect on the country’s more recent past. Throughout the tour, your local guide will share insights about Armenian culture, architecture, and modern-day life. This is more than just sightseeing — it’s a thoughtful introduction to a country shaped by ancient traditions and 20th-century history. Why Take This Tour?
